2016 Registrations now open
The AKAC Club is small and close-knit club that has some amazing successes and a lot of fun. The kids have created a wonderful community. The fun they have in training, the pain they share in training (sorry Darren !) and the support they feel and give to fellow team members at race meets makes the whole experience special. We’d love to extend this family and invite new members to join in the fun.
2015/2016 Season
AKAC’s racing season runs from November through to October and includes two official meets – a winter (short-course meet) and a summer (long-course meet). An official meet is where we have an official referee and times are sent to NSW swimming to use to enter other external events. Entry is $5 for regular race nights.
Friday 6 November 2015 marks the start of the 2015|16 season however we invite all new swimmers to join us on Friday 9th October for a trial meet. As a special offer, all squad members who have never been to race night before, enter free on Friday 11th October. We have also changed the program to fun, fast and furious 50m races.
The club aims to meet on the first Friday of each month and races at the Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre, although sometimes we miss the first as we try to avoid school holidays. Please see schedule at the end of this information sheet.
Our team also races throughout the year at a variety of external meets and fields teams at the State Swimming Championships.
Race night starts at 6pm and finishes at 730pm and is usually followed by dinner in a local restaurant where all are welcome.
AKAC Swim Club caters for all swimming levels from 5 years and over, with race distances from 25 to 200 metres. Races vary each meet so that experience is gained in different strokes and distances.
Bi-annual Club Challenge against Col Jones Tempe – we recently held the short course challenge and walked away with the trophy. We are currently planning another in March. It was loads of fun and loud! The cheering in the relays from team members and families nearly raised the roof.
Can I have a go first? Sure!
We invite you to a free trial on Friday 11th October 2015, 6pm at the Squads end of the AKAC pool. Normally race night costs $5 but for Squad members that have not been before, we are waiving the cost just this once!
How do I do this?
- fill in a race entry form (example is attached). For Friday 9th October, we have made it easy with a special race entry form just for this night.
- Place the entry form in the race box before Monday 5th October. The race box is the locked wooden box on the table near the windows in reception. Usually you would put your entry form and $5 in an envelope
Why do you do this??
We enter all competitors into the computer before race night and the computer seeds the races so you are swimming against others with similar times. However, when this is your first go, you won’t have times so it won’t be seeded for new starters (but if you keep coming back it will be). Even without times, we need to know who is racing so we can allocate lanes and marshal you into the right heats.
Please note – NSW Swimming only allows 2 trial race nights before you need to join the club – this is to comply with their Insurance requirements.
How do I join the club?
To join us - Membership is now open. Go to http://www.akac.swimming.org.au click on membership and follow the instructions.

It's hard to believe that another month is almost gone and winter is well and truly here... I
imagine that it is rather hard for some of the kids and parents to be getting up for those early
morning sessions in the cold but please keep trying because morning squad numbers are
down and we're at risk of losing some of the flexibility we all take for granted. On those tough
days think of two things - the coaches are here waiting for you and... Read More

Our first Club Night under the new format and I think all who participated would say that it was a success. Our youngest competitor (8 years) was Leo Cosgrove who put in an extraordinary effort to swim his first ever 50m Butterfly. Well done! We also had some 9 year olds who did some fantastic swims and all of them get a special mention for their great efforts -– Will Houseman, Chloe Pankhurst and Jamie Robertson did some fantastic times. A special welcome also for Adam Khalil who joined in on the night and, did some very fine swimming! Read More
