Newsletter April 2015

The last month has really flown by and as always there is lots to share with you all. Here’s hoping everyone has stayed safe and dry these last few days, except of course when in squads…

Last Friday night we had our second Club Night under the new format and it was wonderful. We were delighted that a whole bunch of new swimmers came along and we’d like to wish them all a huge welcome… Hello and welcome aboard to   Ada Kelly, Athan and Harrison Tzanis, Emily Grimes, Erling Halvor, Erica Beattie, Ben Harrington, Timothy Schon, Elena and Kate Francis, Mathew Brawn. Our youngest swimmers were 8 and 9 and there were some hard fought battles in the 25m freestyle races and the 50m breaststroke and backstroke races. Well done to all who participated on the night.

Swimmers of the night were Khloe Pardo, Alexandra Deas and Jamie Robertson. They accrued the highest number of ”improvement points” meaning that they improved their times significantly based on the first club night. Each race night we run the race results as well as improvement point scores. This means that swimmers are also racing themselves, striving each month to better what they did personally the month before. The point scoring will run throughout the season with Age Champions announced at our end of year celebration.

Carlile JX Meet – Celebrating success

9 of our junior swimmers attended the Carlile JX meet on 22nd March and we again had some outstanding results. Congratulations to Violet Adeney, Charlotte Fletcher, Will Houseman, Chloe Houseman, Tiana Ornelas, Khloe Pardo, Jamie Robertson, Isabella Rocher and Tahi Webster on some fabulous swimming.

IN OTHER NEWS

Charlotte Fletcher and Scarlett Deas were lucky enough to score some volunteer work at the Australian Championships as basket carriers for some of Australia’s top swim stars – meeting the likes of the Campbell sisters, James Magnussen, Emma McKeown as well as Cameron McEvoy and Geoff Huegill. They had a really great time and if your kids ever get the opportunity to do something like this then I would highly recommend it. The championships themselves were fun to watch and certainly inspiring for anyone who went out there.

CCC Championships & School Carnival update

A big shout out for Scarlett Deas who was School and Zone Champion and is off to the next stage of racing. Well done!

Congratulations to Marc Ornelas, Tahi Webster and Sammy Gregory who will be competing in the NSWCCC Championships (New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges) Carnival on 4th May. We wish you all lots of luck!

Starter Training

Metsea has agreed to come in and train our parent volunteers as official starters for swim meets. Please let our Race Secretary Nyree Webster know if you would like to join the training.

CLUB NIGHTS

Our next Club Night is Friday 8th May and we’ll be running 25m, 50m and 100m races for Butterfly, Breaststroke and Freestyle. We’d love to see you all there so please grab the race night entry form on the notice- board or from Darren on the pool deck. There is a small fee ($5) to enter. We charge this fee to cover the costs of AKAC caps, ribbons, and trophies and to subsidize uniforms and equipment.

New swimmers are welcome to come along for a trial (or two) but please note that for those who enjoy the thrill of competition and want to compete on a monthly basis, after two trial swims you will need to join the Annette Kellerman Swim Club and be registered with Swimming New South Wales. This is a Swimming New South Wales regulation and it is for insurance purposes. Details on how to join the club can be found below.

Entries are due in the Tuesday before we race i.e. Tuesday 5th May. Please make sure you get your race cards in early so that things run smoothly on the night.

Newsletter May 2015

It's hard to believe that another month is almost gone and winter is well and truly here... I imagine that it is rather hard for some of the kids and parents to be getting up for those early morning sessions in the cold but please keep trying because morning squad numbers are down and we're at risk of losing some of the flexibility we all take for granted. On those tough days think of two things - the coaches are here waiting for you and...
